As a concert technician, Tom is the leading concert technician for the area's performance concert pianos. Expect the same attention and care for your piano.
Pianos not serviced over long periods of time will require additional measures to bring the piano back into good playing order. Expect the need for a pitch raising tuning and fine tuning if the piano hasn't been serviced in a long time. With roughly 40,000 lbs. of combined string pressure, fine tuning can only be achieved after the piano has been returned to concert pitch.
For new customers requesting an appointment, please include a note as to when the piano was serviced last. Additionally, please include any malfunctions like keys not working, sluggish action, or broken strings . This helps us allocate sufficient time to schedule appropriately.
Over time, wear and tear changes the dynamic control of the keyboard. With appox. 10,000 moving parts precisely synced together, all manufactures recommend a reconditioning/regulating procedure as a scheduled maintenance as wear and tear issues become evident. Keeping the keyboard within factory parameters ensures your piano performs it's best.
Most manufactures suggest this procedure be completed every 5-10 yrs. . Of course, this depends upon how much it's being used. If this is a concert, school, or institution piano (with very heavy use), plan for this level attention on an annual basis. If your keyboard is beginning to be hard to control, chances are that it's time for a reconditioning/regulating service.

Tropical humidity control systems for pianos are the best defense against the harsh tropical environments found in the coastal regions of Florida. Our great weather comes with endless blue skies, warm beaches, and short sleeve weather all year along. But we also get endless amounts of salt and humidity, which is especially bad news for pianos. Grand pianos are especially vulnerable to the salt and humidity, as strings and dampers are being fully exposed to the elements. Even with homes AC running 24/7, salt and humidity makes it's way into the homes and can wreck havoc on the piano. This is why adding a tropical humidity control system to your piano is the way to go.
The best advise is to install the tropical version of the humidity control systems early on. These systems incorporate a wool blend string cover felt, 2-3 dampp chasers (depending upon the size of your piano), and a humidistat to ensure full 24/7 protection for your piano. There's nothing to empty, as this dehumidifying system works on an entirely different principle. Just keep it plugged in and you're good to go.
If you're a new resident to Florida, the best advise is to have the humidity control system installed first. It's recommended to let the piano acclimate for a week or 2 before doing the initial tuning. You'll see a higher level of tuning stability from that point forward. Plus, you'll have the peace of mind knowing your piano is fully protected against the salt and humidity.
